Careers Advisor

Salary: NJC Grade I/J £32,234 - £38,890FTE depending on experience

Actual starting salary from: £25,177 - £30,376

HOURS: 33.75 hours per week over 5 days

WORKING WEEKS: Term time only (39 weeks a year)

Combe Pafford is a specialist school for children aged 8 – 19 years of age who have moderate learning difficulties.  The school is seeking to appoint a Careers Advisor to implement a Careers programme that follows best practice and prepares young people for employment, apprenticeships and transition into other post 16/19 education and providers. The school has an on-site, first class wide range of vocational facilities and employs tutors drawn from industry to deliver our accredited vocational programmes

Whilst the national average for people with learning difficulties being in employment is less than 6% per year, we aim for between 50-80% of those that leave us to move into meaningful employment or apprenticeships

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Understanding of running a Careers programme in schools.
  • Experience of working in a Careers programme in school / education setting, whether as a Leader, Advisor or other relevant context.
  • A relevant qualification in Careers Guidance or equivalent or working towards.
  • Experience of planning and delivering a curriculum.
  • Experience of organising work experience placements.
  • Excellent English skills (clear written and spoken English) along with good reading, writing and numeracy skills.
  • The ability to build good working relationships with internal staff and external contacts such as work placement providers and parents/carers.

You will be required to work 33.75 hours over 5 days a week term time only, salary will be negotiable depending on suitable experience and the finalised job description but will be paid on NJC scale I/J. Actual salary will start from £25,177

Learning Support Assistants

£9.6212 - £10.2100 per hour dependent on experience

Actual starting salary from £13,424 per annum

31.25 hours a week, 39 weeks a year

Hours of work are 8.45am - 3.40pm 39 weeks a year.

Combe Pafford are always looking to recruit LSA's to join us to support across a range of groups and individual children in mainstream classes or in one of our Autistic Base classes. Experience of working in a school is desirable but not essential.

Applications must have achieved at least a C Grade (Level 4) in GCSE English and maths or equivalent and be able to provide evidence of this at interview if shortlisted.

School Counsellor

LOCATION: Combe Pafford School Torquay                           Hourly Rate: £11.49 – £12.69

Starting salary for 37 hours a week: Scale point NJCF12-17 currently £22,183 - £24,491. Actual starting salary for 30.4 hours a week is £15,208 - £16,785

Hours 30.4 hours a week 8.45am – 3.30pm term time only although we would consider a large element of part time working.

We are looking for a School Counsellor

  • To provide an independent and confidential counselling service to pupils and students at Combe Pafford School responding to their personal, social, emotional or educational concerns.
  • To employ and develop therapeutic interventions to support and empower pupils and students, encouraging confidence, independence, resilience and generally promoting positive mental and emotional health

 Main Duties

You will be required to provide school-based counselling support for children and young people across the school but mainly in the sixth form. In order to ensure counsellors meet recognised quality standards we require post holders to be registered with the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP), in addition we encourage BACP accreditation. You will be expected to be qualified to Level 4 in Counselling, ideally with evidence of further professional qualifications.

You will provide school-based pastoral support, possibly in small groups and 1:1 therapeutic counselling support for children and young people and join in with the wider curriculum and life in a busy special school sixth form. You will provide counselling assessment for children and young people as well as act in a consultative capacity and offer guidance to other professionals enabling them to better identify and support learners with emotional health and wellbeing difficulties.
