City and Guilds Level 1 Certificate in Retail Skills
The Retail qualification that is currently followed is the City & Guilds Level 1 Certificate in Retail Skills, which consists of modules in teamwork, processing payments, food safety, health and safety, as well as stock rotation and customer service.
Within this qualification we intend to support pupils with their understanding of employment opportunities within the retail sector as well as teaching pupils and supporting their understanding of the essential retail and customer service skills and knowledge needed for working in a wide range of retail roles. We want our pupils to be able to experience learning on the job in various departments in a working environment and to develop, practice and master key skills needed for successful employment in the retail sector. Pupils will have the opportunity to develop essential communication skills and customer service skills required within the retail industry.
The curriculum will be delivered using bespoke tasks and opportunities developed alongside placement employers and in line with the qualification.
Pupils will have the opportunity to experience different job roles using a rotational timetable, supported by colleagues and an experienced job coach.
Pupils will be encouraged to be independent learners, recording experiences for evidence for the Retail Skills qualification.
Pupils will learn through knowledge based lessons along with workplace experiences in areas such as: processing payments, customer service, working as a team, food safety and general health and safety.
Assessments and evidence will be collected through knowledge questions and performance observations and witness statements from the workplace.
Pupils will be able to explain the importance of working safely in a team and have developed their communication skills. They will be able to make informed choices, through their experiences, as to the areas of work that are right for them. Pupils will achieve a level 1 qualification within the retail sector and when completed they will have a good basic understanding of the retail industry - enough to succeed in a or move on to further study.
