Transition into Combe Pafford

Transition can be an unnerving time for both parents and children, which is why we work hard to ensure that our transition process at Combe Pafford is carefully planned and tailored to meet the needs of your child.

We hope to reduce any natural anxiety that comes with transition (for both pupils and their families), by ensuring that we meet your child's needs effectively from the very start, so they can quickly feel safe, secure and confident in their new setting with us.

Our transition process is designed to be positive, proactive, and supportive, helping students settle in with confidence.

Please see below our transition process for new pupils joining Combe Pafford at the start of an academic year.

The transition process:

  1. You receive confirmation of your place from the Local Authority.
  2. We will send you a welcome letter, golden ticket for your child, and a transition booklet with key information about our school.

  3. We will invite you to an open evening, where you can learn more about Combe Pafford.

  4. We will invite you in for a parents' meeting, so we can get to know you, and find out more about your child.

  5. We will visit your child in their current school setting and meet their key adults.

  6. We will organise taster sessions for your child, so they can spend time in our school with a trusted adult.

  7. We will share social stories to help your child with their transition.

  8. We invite you to attend a 'meet the teacher' evening at our school.

  9. Your child will be invited in for a transition day/morning visit where they will spend time in their new class with their new teacher and teaching assistants.
