Year 9 Visit Hinkley Point C Nuclear Power Station

An inspiring science trip with real-world energy insights.

In May, our Year 9 Entry Level Science students had an exciting trip to Hinkley Point C, the new nuclear power station being built on the Somerset coast. When it’s finished, it will provide low-carbon energy for 6 million homes and is expected to run for at least 80 years. Students were amazed to learn that 14,000 people are working on the site and that the project will cost around £47.9 billion.

They asked great questions and showed real interest throughout the visit. They are were able to see the largest land based crane in world called Big Carl. The guide even praised them for being so respectful and engaged. It was a brilliant day that brought science to life and gave everyone something to think about for the future.
