Governance Roles & Responsibility

Members

Members have a strategic oversight role, similar to shareholders in a company. Their key responsibilities include:

  • Appointing and removing Trustees
  • Ensuring the Trust is fulfilling its charitable objectives
  • Holding the Board of Trustees to account

Board of Trustees

The Board of Trustees is the accountable body for the school and is responsible for:

  • Setting the vision, ethos and strategic direction
  • Ensuring high standards of education and pupil outcomes
  • Overseeing financial performance and probity
  • Ensuring compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements
  • Holding the Headteacher and senior leaders to account

Headteacher / Accounting Officer

The Headteacher is also the Accounting Officer, with responsibility for:

  • Day-to-day leadership and management of the school
  • Delivery of the school’s strategic priorities
  • Ensuring regularity, propriety and value for money in the use of public funds

Governance Professional

The Governance Professional supports effective governance by:

  • Providing procedural and legal advice
  • Ensuring meetings are properly administered
  • Maintaining governance records and minutes
  • Supporting compliance with statutory requirements
