This area of the curriculum is taught throughout the school from Key Stage 2 - 4. It includes Programmes of Study taken from the non-statutory National Curriculum guidelines of Personal, Social and Economic Wellbeing (formerly PSHE) and Citizenship and Social Emotional Aspects of Learning (SEAL). Additionally at Key Stage 4, pupils undertake elements of Enterprise Education.
At Key Stage 2 pupils look at topics such as making choices for Healthy Living within their broader class theme.
At Key Stage 3 pupils have a discrete weekly double lesson which focuses on themes such as:
At Key Stage 4 pupils take an accreditation course in PSHE at Entry Level.
Units covered include Emotional Health and Wellbeing, Sex Education, Drugs Education, Personal Finance and Healthy Lifestyles.
The school nurse takes an active role in lesson delivery of the Sex and Relationship modules in both Key Stage 3 & 4.
Citizenship topics covered include World Hunger, The Role of the Media, Crime & Young People and Combating Racism. The school monitors and continually reviews the delivery of Personal Development involving the opinions of pupils, parents and staff, as well as local and national initiatives.
