Year 7 - Monday 5th to Friday 9th July 2010

After an initial hiccup about the venue for our residential this year, we are now delighted to be booked into THE ADVENTURE CENTRE at Kelly College in Tavistock. This is about 1 ½ hours away from Torquay, on the western side of Dartmoor. 

We will be staying in self-contained accommodation with a variety of sized rooms. These range from bunk-bedded dormitories sleeping up to 16 people to small rooms sleeping 2, 4 or 6. Girls will be staying in one building and boys in another. All the rooms have toilets and showers nearby. All rooms will be closely supervised by staff to ensure that children are happy and that we all get a sensible amount of sleep! 

All of our meals will be provided by the college canteen which offers a choice of delicious meals. Packed lunches will be provided for lunchtime so that we can use time during the day flexibly.  

Fully qualified and experienced instructors will lead activities in the morning, afternoon and evening. Combe Pafford staff will be present at all times to supervise and assist children. The Centre offers a wide range of outdoor activities, some on-site and others on Dartmoor or on the River Tavy. We have ticked a list requesting activities we think will be popular - these include canoeing/kayaking, tree climbing, high ropes course, abseiling, archery and many more! Nearer the time of the visit, we will agree with the instructors exactly which activities the group will be offered. The college has its own swimming pool which we also hope to use.

Safety equipment and some waterproof clothing may be borrowed from the centre but all children will need to bring 2 pairs of their own footwear - one to wear and one to dry out! Suitable footwear would be walking boots, wellies or strong trainers/boots.  

A full kit list and further details will be sent nearer the time. You may want to think about looking for suitable boots/footwear for your child and to find a bargain before July maybe! 

We are very excited about this trip and the great range of activities available. It is sure to be an all-action, fun-packed week!
