Horticulture Students work alongside "Pride in Brixham"

The Sixth Form Construction and Horticulture pathway group made a visit to Brixham this week to continue their work alongside the ‘Pride in Brixham’ group. The Pride in Brixham is a volunteer group that sets out to help upgrade and maintain the environment in and around Brixham, focusing its efforts on painting and gardening schemes around the harbour, and our Sixth Form group offered to help them with some tasks to practise using newly gained Horticulture skills. They grew 150 French and African Marigolds from seed to order, and they also planted up a large flower bed in the Central Car Park with some of the Marigolds, plus Nasturtiums, Asters and  Wallflowers that they also grew from seed. It was a tremendous achievement and allowed hours of their work spent growing the plants to be put to great community use. The Pride of Brixham group were delighted with the results.

The next event on the horizon is the big Plant Sale this Friday (1st July) from 12 noon until 2pm in our new greenhouse, which can be accessed via the Yellow Frog Café driveway. The Horticulture group are selling the hundreds of healthy plants they have grown by turning their new greenhouse into a Garden Centre. They are hoping to use the proceeds to purchase a large compost system.

We hope to see you there!
