Shakespeare’s Work Came Alive!

Plymouth Theatre trip a great inspiration to pupils

On Wednesday 27th January the English groups in Year 8 studying Shakespeare’s Midsummer Night’s Dream visited TR2 in Plymouth.  TR2 is the only one of its kind in the South West, it is where costumes and set designs are made and rehearsals take place for shows at both the drum theatre and main theatre in Plymouth, it is open to school groups and we had great fun for the morning with Sally our drama teacher.

We found out lots of information about Shakespeare and The Globe theatre in London, as well as finding out more information about the characters from Midsummer Night’s Dream.  We did lots of role play activities before lunch and drama activities to help us better understand the characters.  In the afternoon we were taken on a tour of the building where we saw costume designers, wig makers, artists, set designers and actors rehearsing.

It was a fabulous experience for the young people who went, as it gave them an insight into the planning and steps involved in putting on a real play and made Shakespeare’s work come alive!
