Grand NEW Library Launch

Grand Library Launch

The school welcomed two authors to launch our new state-of-the-art library, which took place on the 20th January.

International storyteller and poet Clive Pig and children’s author Dan Metcalf, from Torquay, marked the official opening of the £90,000 library.

The school is keen to promote a love of reading and created an attractive space so children would feel more compelled to visit the library.

Totnes-based Rud Sawers Architects were the mastermind behind the innovative design, which features a range of comfortable furniture and modern lighting.

Riviera Concern Brass have donated £600 to the school, which will be used to buy new books. The school is also appointing a part-time librarian.

Our head teacher Mike Lock said: “Reading is a subject our pupils find tricky so we wanted to ensure that the new library was designed to make them feel welcome.

“The old library wasn’t very attractive and not a space where youngsters could spend their leisure time.

“Now the children have somewhere to go and read before school and during break times and lunchtimes. We are delighted to finally get it open.”

Author Metcalf commented: “It was a privilege to open this fantastic new library and the children are very lucky to have such an amazing place to read.

“I hope this inspires them to read more and more in the future.”
