Year 10 Crest Discovery Award

Year 10 have been completing a project on 'sustainable practice' through the British Science Association which will gain them a 'CREST discovery award' each.  The year 10's went to Paignton zoo and followed the sustainability trail in small groups. The pupils then went back to the zoo classroom and made a list of  what and how we could become more sustainable at Combe Pafford. Here are some of the ideas from the pupils - Kiemera thought about checking the use of energy saving light bulbs throughout the school, Liam Opie thought about collecting rain water in a pool for the goats and chickens to use, Marcus thought about using recycled materials to make new things, Chloe and Mia discussed growing more food for the herbivore animals, Charlotte thought about using solar panels on the yellow frog the generate electricity to heat the reptile enclosures, Brandon and Mia discussed collecting rain water to clean out the chickens and goats, Aimee-Jo thought about checking food labels for palm oil................. There were so many fantastic ideas from all of the pupils, the next step is to pick a couple of ideas and see how we can put them into practice. Well done year 10!
